Beauty And The Beast Audition Prep

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST – ANYONE4THEATRE? 2011 – 2012

Welcome! We are delighted to have you…

Everyone who auditions for this show will get a part, there’s tons on offer.

First and foremost for a few ground rules;

-        You must be free on 12th April 2012 and for 4 weeks prior to this date you must not have absence from rehearsals

-        You must attend rehearsals every Friday, and some Sundays from Feb – we are volunteer staff, we don’t particularly like working Sundays but we do when you guys need our extra time so please don’t winge – it’s not nice, don’t bunk – it’s unfair on your team, and remember if you work hard Fridays we won’t need as many Sundays!

-        You must be prepared to help fundraise – this show will cost us £18,000 and we need to raise every penny as a team

-        You must put your back into selling tickets please – no one likes to perform to an empty theatre, we have the most competitive prices in town, get behind it and start now. DON’T LEAVE IT TILL AFTER CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!! Sell sell sell, set yourself a target – maybe try and sell 5 every week.

-        This year we are starting a new way to pay in your fundraising so it’s more manageable for you – you will therefore need to bring in £5 every Friday rehearsal regardless of attendance; if you are away you must pay the following week. £2 for every Sunday. So this gives you the chance to do small jobs through the week – wash one car a week for your fiver each week. We will also have our big fundraising walk in October to raise some extra funds (really its a cheeky excuse to socialise and scoff our faces at The HARVESTER!)

-        Make sure you have a pencil and your script at EVERY REHEARSAL

-        Learn your songs/dialogue/movement for the following week – when we teach you something, go away, learn it and that will make for a speedier learning on all.

There’ll be more boring info in the packs we hand out so take a good look at that and be sure to show it to your parents, it’s useful for them to know what brilliant things you’re up to!

SO, for parts;

BELLE – Daughter of Maurice, Gaston Fancies her, wants her to Marry him she finds him gross! Hates the Beast but learns to love him. She is sweet, Naive and bouncy. Senior Part. Must have a gorgeous Disney Voice, Great Acting skills and be able to move ok

BEAST – Under a spell, he is trapped in his castle ashamed and lonely. He is desperate to please Belle but often fails. He becomes softer through the show, audience must fall in love with him. Senior Part. To die for creamy, spine tingling vocals a necessity with low and high range. Acting needs to be strong and versatile.

GASTON – Smarmy, big headed, strong and handsome. Must be a charmer. Wants Belle to be his wife because she is the prettiest girl in the town. Everyone falls at his feet. Senior Part. Acting needs to be strong, daring, confident and energetic. Comic timing a must.

MAURICE – Belle’s father, is the village inventor. However, he is considered by the majority of the village to be insane. Lovely gentle old man. Most likely to be cast from an adult

LEFOU – Gaston’s idiotic sidekick, he’s a fool, he’s dumb, he’s annoying and has an irritating voice. He’s mistreated by Gaston but he doesn’t seem to mind, or realise! He is unsure about Gaston marrying Belle but helps him anyway. Needs to be a strong actor with comic timing. Fast on feet, can be any age from 9 upwards, preferred male but will consider females if funny!

MRS POTTS – is the kitchen’s head of the castle, and has a loving, motherly feel. She has been transformed into a teapot. In her first appearance, she helps Maurice get comfortable. She helps comfort Belle when she is made to stay at the castle in exchange for her father’s freedom. Mrs. Potts also tries to help the Beast try and become more civil to Belle. Must be a warm actress with a soft feel and voice. Senior Part.

LUMIERE – He is the Beast’s kindhearted but rebellious French maître d’ who has been transformed into a candelabra. Cheeky womaniser, teases Babette always and saves her from being plucked at the end in THE MOB. Must be a larger than life but camp actor willing to look flouncy on stage! A really fun part for a senior.

BABETTE – is a French maid of the castle, who is also Lumiere‘s girlfriend. She is transformed into a feather duster. Cheeky Senior Girl, high pitched and very fun and girly. She’s flirty and a bit of a bimbo in a Disney way!

WARDROBE – ‘Madame De La Garnde Bouche’ (Lady with the big mouth) is the former opera singer of the castle, turned into a wardrobe. Must have a floaty top range and bags of DIVA-ness. Senior Part.

COGSWORTH – is the Beast’s tightly wound and extremely loyal Majordomo, and both Lumiere‘s counterpart and rival. When the Enchantress curses the Beast, he is transformed into a pendulum clock. He’s a bit old fashioned and a bossy boots! Pompous really. Can be a taller junior or female.

CHIP –  is the son of Mrs. Potts. As a result of the Enchantress’ spell, he is transformed into a teacup. He befriends Belle and looks up to her. Junior Boy, girls will be allowed to audition too. Ages 5 – 10, must be small build and have a good projection in the voice. MUST be cute!

D’ARQUE – is the owner of the local madhouse or Asylum for Loons. Gaston bribes him to take part in a scheme to blackmail Belle into marrying him, in which D’Arque will threaten to have Belle’s rather eccentric father, Maurice, sent to the madhouse. D’arque will be in other ensembles scenes too. He must be scary and mean and dark. Deep pitch in the voice. Villainous

SILLY GIRLS X3 - are a trio of rather stupid blonde women who fawn over Gaston. They think Belle is crazy when they see her refusing Gaston’s advances. They are also upset when Gaston decides to marry Belle, as they are seen crying when he is announcing that he will propose to Belle. Very funny OTT senior girls, who will also play other ensembles roles.
